The Tomb of Sheikh Khalid is a large, whitewashed tomb surrounded by a mudbrick wall erected in honour of the Emir who died in Bulaq while travelling in a caravan towards Mecca in the seventeenth century. The ancient settlement of Shams el Din is on the road from New Baris. It contains a necropolis and a fourth century church, one of the oldest in Egypt.
