CISS is a non-profit organization that has been operating in Egypt since 1998, at first with a project to support handicraft production in the oasis of Siwa. Projects in Egypt are focused on promoting economic development of oases and rural areas, by preserving and enhancing environmental and cultural heritage, fostering sustainable tourism development, increasing job opportunities in the sectors of green and rural economy, and improving effective management of natural resources and environment. Other areas of intervention include education, training, children and adolescents.

CISS plans to implement more projects in Egypt in the next years.
Among them, the project “New Education for Achievement” aims at contributing to strengthen women’s role in Egyptian society and to promote an aware and empowered society by implementing education activities for children, teachers and school operators and the project “Developing Youth and Women Employment Partnership in rural and remote areas of Fayoum, Minya and New Valley” which aims at the creation of new partnerships between civil society, local authorities and small and medium-sized enterprises, to support employment of young people and women in the sector of rural and green economy and to expand local economic activities oriented towards sustainability.

The aim of the project was to support a network of operators and young people between the two shores of the Mediterranean Sea. Opportunities of exchange and training for young volunteers, operators, educators and local associations were organized in Mediterranean countries, among them Egypt, to discuss the different contexts of the countries involved in the project.
The aim of the project was to improve living conditions of the population in New Valley Governorate through sustainable tourism development and effective management of natural resources and environment, particularly the Egyptian oases (Siwa, Fayoum, Kharga, Dakhla, Farafra and Baharia). Concrete actions on the ground, networking and exchanges of experiences and good practices were carried out. 240 teachers, artisans, small businesses, public employees and tourist guides were involved in the project, together with their families.
The aim of the project was to combat the illiteracy of children, adolescents and women in Cairo. Its objectives were to realize vocational training courses oriented to enhance in adolescents the professional skills required by the market, to improve health conditions of the population and to enhance language and computer skills of children and adults.
The aim of the project was to promote economic growth of Fayoum area by safeguarding the environmental heritage of the oasis (the largest one in Egypt). Its objectives were preserving and enhancing environmental and cultural heritage and promoting the area as a new destination for local and international tourism, also thanks to microcredit activities that could support small and medium enterprises in the local tourism and craft sector.
The aim of the project was to support handicraft production in the oasis of Siwa by developing traditional economic activities to increase income of population, training 20 men and women for the local production of silver and activating manufacturing marketing channels.
